Eagles Complete Elon Invitational

ELON, N.C. – The Georgia Southern Men's Tennis team completed the three-day Elon Invitational with Mark Paetz recording a first round win and Matthijs Verdam earning the A2 back draw singles title.
Paetz (Munich, Germany) earned a first round win over Ivan Ho of Presbyterian College, 7-5, 6-3 in B2 singles. He moved into the quarterfinal round where he faced Elon's Phillip Meyer. Meyer took the match in straight sets.
Meanwhile, Verdam (Hilversum, The Netherlands) took the A2 back draw title defeating two opponents en route to the final. Verdam first captured a win over PC's Grayson Mills, 7-5, 6-1, before ousting Yadav in a super tiebreak, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (9). The Eagle took the title when Tristan Stayt of Liberty withdrew.
Also in the back draw, Alain Garrido (Vigo, Spain) defeated Nobu Tanaka of Longwood in the A1 back draw, 7-5, 7-5, before succumbing in straight sets to Andrew Brigham of Presbyterian College.
Edio Castanhel (Criciuma, Brazil) advanced to the final of B1 singles. Castanhel suffered a tough loss to Elon's own Carlos Arboleda in a super tiebreak.
Sebastien Felt (Vienna, Austria) defeated WSSU's Creighton Jones dropping only three games before grabbing a win over PC's Nathan Crocker. Felt then fell in B2 back draw action to James Jones of Campbell. Alex Yuille (Epsom, England) fell in straight sets in the semifinal round of the C back draw.
In doubles action, Paetz and Garrido paired up to reach the finals of the B1 back draw. The Eagle tandem notched a win over Mills and Asis of PC, but fell 8-4 to Thomas and Yadav of Liberty in the final. Felt and Yuille also reached the final in doubles action, defeating Jeter and M. Kingof WSSU in the back draw, 8-3. The Eagle pair fell 9-7 in the final to Meyer and Arboleda of host Elon.
