Eagles Face Appalachian State on Road Saturday

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Men's Soccer team will play its first Southern Conference road game of the season on Saturday, October 2 against Appalachian State at 1 p.m. in Boone, N.C.
The Eagles enter the contest 3-3-1overall and 0-1-0 in the Southern Conference, after falling 2-1 to Furman in overtime at Eagle Field on Wednesday, September 29. Jon Cox (Alpharetta, Ga.) scored his team-leading third goal of the season against the Paladins. The senior is tied for fifth in goals in the conference, while the Eagles are tied for third as a team with 13 goals.
Ryan Platt (Preston, England) has been a wall in goal, ranking seventh in NCAA Division I with 6.00 saves per game before the Furman match. Against the Paladins, the junior recorded four saves.
Appalachian State has a 3-3-2 overall record after dropping the last two matches, 1-0 to Campbell and 2-1 to North Carolina State. Saturday's match against the Eagles is the SoCon opener for the Mountaineers.
Sean Dreybus leads the Mountaineers with three goals and an assist, and Antonio Harley and Ryan Duffy each have two goals. Danny Free, Collin Taylor and Drake Branson have each played at least 100 minutes in goal. Free leads the team with nine saves while allowing just three goals in 270 minutes.
The Eagles and Mountaineers have faced each other 24 times since 1984. While the Mountaineers hold a 14-10 advantage in the all-time series, Georgia Southern has won three of the last four matches.
