Eagles win three of four dual meets at Davidson

STATESBORO, Ga. - Georgia Southern picked up three victories against one dual meet loss in the 2010 Dualapalooza on Saturday at Davidson. Georgia Southern defeated Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) members North Carolina A&T 244-39, Radford 231-60 and Campbell 215-71. The Eagles came out on the short side of the Davidson matchup 174-119 as Davidson swept all competitors. The 16-event program took place at the Cannon Natatorium.
Lauren Parr (Canton, Ohio) garnered three first-place finishes in the meet, taking the top spot in the 200-yard butterfly (2:08.34), 200-yard breaststroke and 200-yard individual medley (2:10.27) events. Parr took more than a full second off Georgia Southern's best season time in the 200 breast at 2:26.26. Courtney Martz (Woodbine, Ga.) recorded three second-place finishes in the 100- (59.39) and 200-yard backstroke (2:09.78) and 50-yard freestyle races. Her time in the 100 back was the second best time of the season.
With second-place finishes in the 500-yard and 1,000-yard freestyle, Ali Campbell (Frt. McMurray, Alberta) also secured an eighth-place finish in the 50-yard free. Campbell swam a 5:12.81 in the 500 free and 10:35.69 time for the 1,000 free, both good enough to place as the third-best times on the Georgia Southern season list. Lindsay Mullican (5th place - 10:53.00, Lancaster, Pa.) and Meredith Fehr (7th place - 11:05.13, Matthews, N.C.) rounded out the top eight in that event.
Lindsay Goodman (Knoxville, Tenn.) placed third in the 200 individual medley (2:16.19), as one of four Eagles to finish in the top eight of the event. Caroline Bevillard (Bishop, Ga.) added two fourth-place finishes in the 100-yard free (55:36) and 200 individual medley (2:19.46) to the Eagles total. Bevillard also recorded a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard free (2:00.03). The Georgia Southern relay team of Campbell, Laurie Stephens (Atlanta, Ga.), Emily Fell (Brunswick, Ga.) and anchored by Jordyn Pasley (Knoxville, Tenn.) captured the top spot in the 400-yard freestyle relay by 0.59 with a time of 3:44.17. The Georgia Southern "B" relay team finished in third place (3:51.26) and the "C" squad placed fifth (3:58.61).
Goodman, Ashley White (Charlotte, N.C.), Caitlin Martin (Lilburn, Ga.) and Martz started the meet with a second-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay (1:50.27) as the GSU "A" team and "B" relay team of Holly Hirsch (Fort Mill, S.C.), Kristin Celii (Cary, N.C.), Rachael Stockwell (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Stephens recorded a time of 1:57.31 for fifth place.
Other notable performances included White posting the team's second-best time for the 2009-2010 season in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:08.56). Martin and Stockwell finished sixth (2:16.51) and seventh (2:17.87), respectively. In the 100 free, Stephens picked up sixth place for her time of 55.61, just .04 out of fifth place. Stockwell picked up the best finish for Georgia Southern in the 100-yard butterfly with a 1:01.59 time for fourth place. Martin, at 1:02.22, finished seventh.
Four Eagles took top-eight finishes in the 200 back with Martz (2nd), Goodman (4th-2:13.20), Mullican (5th-2:15.46) and Pirie Humphries (8th-2:18.31, Athens, Ga.). Pasley and Fell finished back-to-back in the 500 free with Pasley sixth (5:25.39) and Fell taking seventh (5:25.61). Pasley also had a sixth-place finish in the 200-yard free (2:01.20). White, a member of the 200 medley relay "A" team picked up a second place finish in the 100 breast while Martin finished sixth in the 200-yard individual medley. Celii, part of the 200 medley relay "B" team, took fourth in the 200 breast (2:33.38). Fell finished eighth in the 200 free (2:03.54).
In the diving events, Alden Lynch (Jacksonville, Fla.) finished in fourth place in both the one- and three-meter events with Kristen Haudenschild (Woodbridge, Va.) taking fifth in both events. Lynch scored 202.45 points on the one-meter board and 218.15 on the three-meter board. Haudenschild posted her best performance for 2009-10 in the three-meter event with 146.70 points and was just shy of her best point total of the season with 151.45 in the one-meter event.
The Eagles Swimming and Diving team will compete next at the CCSA Championships in Knoxville, Tenn. Thursday-Saturday, February 18-20.
