Men's Soccer Drops Season Opener to Iona

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Georgia Southern Men's Soccer team dropped its season opener to Iona 2-0 Friday. The Eagles recorded five shots but were unable to score a goal.
Witt Carlisle (Alpharetta, Ga.) recorded his first career shot on goal against the Gaels. Rich Heyer (Tupelo, Miss.), Matt Crowell (St. Augustine, Fla.) and Jon Cox (Alpharetta, Ga.) all recorded shots in the match.
Joey Ralph (Evans, Ga.) made three saves in 90 minutes of action.
Iona scored two first half goals to take an early 2-0 lead. Giovanni Destasio beat the keeper off of a through pass in the 12th minute to give the Gaels the early advantage. Fernando Liserra scored the second goal off of a corner kick.
Men's soccer continues play in the UCF Fall Classic Sunday against UCF at 2:30 p.m.
