STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern men's soccer team (0-6-1) travels to Clemson, S.C. for a 7 p.m. match against Clemson (1-5-1) Tuesday.
The Eagles had their conference opening match against Elon called in the second half due to unplayable conditions. The match will be rescheduled for a later date and must be replayed from the start.
The early portion of the first half saw both teams exchange shots. The Eagles recorded two shots on goal, but the Phoenix got a goal in the 9th minute. Witt Carlisle (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Joe Madigan (Centennial, Colo.) recorded shots on goal for Georgia Southern, but Elon's Justin Wyatt scored his first goal of the season off a cross from Erfan Imeni.
The Phoenix remained on the attack after the goal, but the Eagles' defense responded. The defense blocked a shot attempt by Elon in the 19th minute, and Zach Buckley (Statesboro, Ga.) made a save on another shot in the 20th minute.
Jon Cox (Alpharetta, Ga.) leads the Eagles offense with 12 shots and a goal scored.
Clemson leads the all-time series with a 4-1-1 record, but a season ago Georgia Southern earned a big 2-1 win over the Tigers. Daniel Smith scored both goals and took three shots in the win.
The Tigers upset #8 Virginia 1-0 on the road Saturday, earning their first win of the season. Mike Mattson notched the match's lone goal, giving Clemson the conference victory.
