The early portion of the first half saw both teams exchange shots. The Eagles recorded two shots on goal, but the Phoenix got a goal in the 9th minute. Witt Carlisle (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Joe Madigan (Centennial, Colo.) recorded shots on goal for Georgia Southern, but Elon's Justin Wyatt scored his first goal of the season off a cross from Erfan Imeni.
The Phoenix remained on the attack after the goal, but the Eagles' defense responded. The defense blocked a shot attempt by Elon in the 19th minute, and Zach Buckley (Statesboro, Ga.) made a save on another shot in the 20th minute.
Buckley made two more saves in the first half, and the Eagles' defense blocked another shot, keeping the Phoenix off the board the remainder of the first half.
The Eagles return to action Tuesday with a 7 p.m. match at Clemson.
