Beeler Wins Singles Title at Brevard Mountain Invitational

BREVARD, N.C. – Freshman Allison Beeler displayed a promising performance at the Brevard Mountain Invitational, capturing the singles title of flight 'B' in her first outing as an Eagle. Beeler took the crown in a third-set tiebreak. In doubles action, it was a Georgia Southern showdown of flight 'B' with the tandems of Beeler and Ashley Hungerford and Alexandra Langmo and Christine Caforio advancing to the championship round.

Opening play in the morning, Hungerford (Clearwater, Fla.) and Beeler (Alpharetta, Ga.) competed in the semifinal round of 'B' doubles. The Eagle pair crushed Western Carolina's Izabella Glinska and Carolina Lainez, 8-0, forcing a Georgia Southern final between two Eagle pairs that was opted not to be played.

In singles action, Beeler posted a perfect 4-0 tournament ledger en route to her first singles title as an Eagle. The Alpharetta, Ga., native took the first set over UNC Asheville's Brittany Cloer in a tiebreak fashion, winning 7-6 (5). Cloer then evened the playing field grabbing the second set, 7-5, forcing a match tiebreak. Beeler won the super tiebreak, 10-7, to capture the match and singles title.

Also competing for a singles title, senior Kristi Kegerreis (Fairfax, Va.) suffered a three-set defeat to Gardner-Webb's White, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3. White took the 'A' singles title with the win. Newcomer Taylor Jones (Warner Robins, Ga.) dropped a straight-set decision to Gardner-Webb's Tavenner Black, 6-4, 7-5, in the finals of the 'C' singles back draw.

“It was a great tournament for us all-around and definitely a good start to our year,” said head coach Amy Bonner. “Ali [Beeler] really played well and came through in close matches to win the flight and her first singles title.”

The Eagles hit the court next traveling to the UNF Invitational in Jacksonville, Fla., October 9-11.
