Sanford Tabbed Volleyball SoCon Player of the Week

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Southern Conference selected Georgia Southern sophomore outside hitter Bethany Sanford as the SoCon Volleyball Player of the Week for all competition from the start of the season to August 31, as announced Monday (August 31).
In the season-opening Holiday Inn Invitational, Sanford (Avondale, Ariz.) hit .364 with 37 kills in three games. Leading the Eagles to a perfect 3-0 start to the season, Sanford recorded a double-double performance in the championship game against Troy. The sophomore tallied 14 kills and 11 digs en route to the 3-1 victory over the Trojans.
Sanford posted a tournament-best 14 kills against Troy and a .500 hitting percentage against Stetson. For her efforts behind the Eagles' tournament victory, Sanford was named the MVP of the Holiday Inn Invitational.
“It's an exciting honor for Bethany. She has worked extremely hard this past year to improve her game and it is nice to see her recognized for her efforts,” said head coach Chad Callihan on Sanford's honor.
Georgia Southern returns to the court in the Colorado State Classic, September 3-5 in Fort Collins, Colo. The Eagles will face host perennial powerhouse Colorado State, Texas-Arlington and Ohio State.
Other nominations across the Southern Conference for Player of the Week included: Appalachian State's Kasey Sauls, College of Charleston's Emily Sawin, The Citadel's Tatum Jestila, Elon's Traci Stewart, Furman's Alexis Shaffer, UNC Greensboro's Catherine Hanners, Samford's Hillary Fountain and Chattanooga's Courtney Barnes.
