Men's Soccer Takes on Lander in Final Exhibition Match

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Men's Soccer team will take on Lander at Eagle Field Saturday in the final exhibition match of the season. The Eagles defeated Georgia State 2-0 in the first exhibition match (Aug 22).
Matt Crowell (St. Augustine, Fla.) and Jon Cox (Alpharetta, Ga.) scored goals within four minutes of each other in the second half to give the Georgia Southern Men's Soccer team a 2-0 win over Georgia State in the first exhibition match of the season.
Crowell scored off of a deflection to give the Eagles their first lead of the match in the 73rd minute. Cox added the second goal in the 77th minute on a free kick placed over the head of the goalie.
Joey Ralph (Evans, Ga.) held the Panthers scoreless and recorded three big second half saves.
The Bearcats are coming off of a 12-5-1 season and boast a pair of All-Americans. The Eagles will face Lander at 2 pm Saturday at Eagle Field.
The Southern Conference also announced its annual Coaches' Preseason Poll with Elon picked to repeat as champions. Furman and the College of Charleston tied for second with two first place votes each. Georgia Southern was picked to finish sixth. The Eagles are coming off of an 8-8-1 season and a second place finish in the conference.
