STATESBORO, Ga. - Head coach Maggie Johnson announces the release of the 2010 softball schedule Tuesday (Aug 25).
The 2010 season will feature the Georgia Southern Eagle Classic and six home series.
"We are excited about the level of competition our schedule allows us to meet. We have several top 50 teams, and more competition against the top 100 teams in the country," said Johnson. "It's so important to put ourselves up against teams that have reached the level of competition we are working toward. Combined with a tough Southern Conference schedule, we have much work to do in preparation."
The season kicks off with the GSU Eagle Classic (Feb 19-21) and a Wednesday doubleheader with Georgia State (Feb 24) at Eagle Field.
The Eagles will face a number of instate opponents including Georgia State, Super Regional participant Georgia Tech, College World Series participant Georgia, Mercer and Kennesaw State.
GSU will prepare for the conference slate with a pair of tournaments in Florida, the first of which is the Florida Gulf Coast Tournament (Feb 26-28) which features Minnesota and UCONN. The Eagles will then head to Orlando for the UCF Tournament (Mar 5-7).
The SoCon schedule begins with GSU on the road at UNC-Greensboro (Mar 13-14). The first home series is against the Catamounts of Western Carolina (Mar 20-21).
The Eagles will also host SoCon Champions Chattanooga (Apr 10) as part of the conference home series slate.
