STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern men's soccer team will continue their preparation for the September 4th season opener in the UCF Fall Classic with a pair of exhibition matches against Georgia State and Lander. The Eagles will face the Panthers Saturday in Atlanta, Ga. and then will return home to square off with the Bearcats on the 29th.
The Eagles are looking to build on their second place finish in the SoCon last season. Georgia Southern returns five starters and eight letterwinners from a year ago. Returning for their senior year are Joey Ralph (Martinez, Ga.) and Danny Hall (Conyers, Ga.).
Ralph started in 10 games in goal last year and recorded a 0.97 goals against average. Hall appeared in 17 games with 14 starts and dished out three assists.
The Eagles will face some tough competition in their exhibition matches. Georgia State went 6-8-4 last season and is coming off one of its best seasons in the Colonial Athletic Conference. Lander went 12-5-2 a season ago and was picked to finish first in the Peach Belt Conference this season.
The match against Georgia State is set for 3 p.m. in Atlanta, Ga., and the home match with Lander is set for the 29th at 2 p.m.
