Donte Gennie Signs Contract to Play with Marso-Vagep NYKK

STATESBORO, Ga. - Former Georgia Southern men's basketball player Donte Gennie has signed a professional contract to play for Marso-Vagep NYKK in Hungary, a team in the first division of the Central European Basketball League (CEBL). The CEBL consists of various teams from Hungary, the Czech Republic, Austria and Slovakia.
Gennie, a 6-1 guard from Tallahassee, Fla., played last season for Bashkimi Prizren in Kosovo and was selected as an All-Star. He led the league in scoring with a 21.4 points-per-game average and finished the season with 4.5 assists per game.
Gennie posted 25 points and four assists in Bashkimi's first victory over league opponent Prishtina in five years. Last May, he scored 21 points and added seven assists in the first game of the championship series versus Prishtina followed by a game-leading 21 points in the deciding game to lift Bashkimi to the Kosovan Championship.
A 2007 Georgia Southern University graduate with a bachelor's of science in recreation and minor in exercise science, Gennie played professionally with Phoenix Hagen in Germany following his collegiate career (2003-2007). Gennie earned four letters and led the Eagles in scoring (16.2 ppg), three-point field goals (82), steals (40), three-point field goal (.429) and free throw percentage (69.9) in his senior season. With 1,288 career points, he is one of 18 Eagle players who have scored more than 1,000 points in the program's Division I history. He holds the single-game mark for three-point field goal percentage, hitting six of six attempts versus The Citadel en route to a career-best 30-point total.
