Eight Eagles Advance to Final Round at Oglethorpe Invitational

SAVANNAH, GA – Rising senior Ryan Zabroske fired a second-round 6-under par 66 at the 2009 Oglethorpe Invitational Saturday to advance to the championship round Sunday, July 26. Joining Zabroske in the final round are fellow teammates Logan Blondell, Matt Deal and Spencer Fulford, as well as former Eagles Jordan Johnstun, Tripp Kuhlke, Travis Mobley and Scott Weeks. After two rounds of competition, the 117-particpant field was trimmed to the top 60 competitors.
Zabroske (Alpahretta, Ga.) shaved off four strokes from his opening round 2-under 70 for a 136 aggregate score after the first two competitive rounds of play at the Wilmington Island Club, a par-72, 6,876 yard course. Zabroske's 136 places him in a three-way tie for sixth, five strokes out of first.
Standing one stroke behind Zabroske is fellow classman Fulford with a 137. The Rocky Mount, N.C. native followed an opening round 68 with a 3-under 69. Fulford stands in a tie for ninth heading into the final round.
Currently in a tie for 21st place are former Georgia Southern Eagles Johnstun (Evans, Ga.) and Weeks (Savannah, Ga.) at 140. Johnstun carded a 73 after opening with a 5-under 67. Meanwhile Weeks posted a 3-under 69 after opening with a 1-under 71. Rising junior Blondell (Lakeland, Fla.) responded to an even-par opening 18 with a 3-under 69 second round to put him in a tie for 30th.
Tying for 39th, former Eagle Mobley (Hinesville, Ga.) shaved four strokes from his opening round 73 to post a second round 69. Kuhlke (Augusta, Ga.) owns a two-round 143 with a 74 opening round and 69 second round, respectively. Kuhlke heads into the final round tied for 45th. Rebounding from an opening round 75, Deal, a Statesboro native, cut off six strokes for a second round 69. Deal's two-round 144 puts him in a tie for 52nd.
Blondell will tee off on the front nine representing Georgia Southern first at 8 a.m. Blondell will be followed by Johnstun at 8:09 a.m., Deal at 8:54 a.m. on the back nine, Fulford at 9:03 a.m., Kuhlke at 9:12 a.m., Zabroske at 9:21 a.m., Mobley at 9:55 a.m. and Weeks at 10:46 a.m. An awards presentation will take place following the conclusion of the championship round.
