Sophomore earns player of the month honors
NEW ORLEANS - Thomas Horne has been named the Sun Belt Men's Golfer of the Month, as announced Friday by the conference.
Thomas Horne had a standout month for the Eagles with strong finishes at The Johnnie-O, the Schenkel Invitational and the Augusta Hakins Award Invitational. At the Johnnie-O, he shot a -9 207 (67-70-70) to tie for 12th. In the event, he had 15 birdies to lead the team. At The Schenkel, he shot an even-par 216 to tie for 27th place with 14 birdies and an eagle. At The Haskins, he shot a 15-under 201 (69-67-career-low 65) with 20 birdies to take second place after falling in a playoff on the third hole.
Horne's 201 is the fifth-lowest three-round total in program history, and just the 20th time in program history an Eagle golfer has posted three rounds in the 60s for a single tournament. The 65 in his final round is the sixth-lowest single-round total in program history. There were 27 top-150 players in the field, including six of the top-30 golfers in the nation.
For the month, he averaged 69.33 in nine rounds with 49 birdies, an eagle and three top-30 finishes.
