STATESBORO, Ga. - Head coach Kevin Kennedy announced the 2009 men's soccer schedule Thursday (May 28). The schedule features two tournaments and a pair of matchups against Atlantic Coast Conference opponents.
The Eagles kick off the season with the UCF Tournament where they will face Iona and Central Florida.
“We are excited to start the season off with a couple of teams of Iona's and Central Florida's caliber,” said Kennedy. “They will be a good early test for us.”
Georgia Southern will face Campbell in the home opener on September 8th, but will not return home again until October.
The Eagles start their six game road swing in Spokane, Washington at the Gonzaga Tournament. Georgia Southern will take on the homestanding Bulldogs on September 11th and wrap up the tournament against Oregon State on September 13th.
“I am anticipating tough games and a tough stretch to start the seasons. We are going to be young and inexperienced but these early games will help prepare us for our conference matches,” said Kennedy.
Conference play gets under way on the road on September 26th against the defending champions Elon.
The Eagles will face Clemson for the third straight year on the 29th. The two teams have split the last two tilts with Georgia Southern pulling off the upset last season.
The SoCon home opener is set for October 3rd against Davidson. GS defeated the Wildcats twice a year ago advancing to the second round of the SoCon Tournament.
The Eagles will step out of conference for the next two games facing Gardner-Webb and N.C. State on the road.
GS returns home for a two game conference homestand against the College of Charleston (Oct. 18) and Wofford (Oct. 21).
After a three game road swing, the Eagles will return home for the regular season finale against Appalachian State on November 7th.
The top four teams in the conference will then advance to the conference tournament. First round games are slated for November 13th at a site to be announced at a later date.
