STATESBORO, GA ? Nearing the end of the 2009 regular season, the Georgia Southern women's tennis team hosts Southern Conference foe College of Charleston at the Hanner Tennis Complex on Wednesday April 15. First serve is slated for 2:30 p.m. between the rivals.
The Eagles (12-5, 6-2) have taken seven of the past eight matches, falling only to Furman, and currently stand in fourth place on the SoCon leader board. Georgia Southern last took a 6-1 victory over Chattanooga (April 4) on its home court to improve to 7-1 at the Hanner Tennis Complex this season. Remaining undefeated from the No. 4 spot this season, sophomore Melanie Rolle will look to notch her 13th victory at the four court and improve on an 11-match win streak that dates back to February 14. Fellow classmate Ali Beavers boasts an 11-4 record from No.2, while senior Shea Huxtable records a 9-1 ledger at No. 6 this dual season.
Standing in second place in conference standings with a 19-4 overall mark and 7-1 SoCon record, College of Charleston enters Wednesday's match coming off its only SoCon loss of the season. The Cougars dropped a 6-1 decision to Furman (April 9) as Keely Mulligan recorded the lone win of the afternoon for Charleston. The Paladins snapped an 11-match win streak CofC held going into the contest.
Georgia Southern will look to avenge a 7-0 sweep by Charleston in the 2008 regular season. The last time the Eagles recorded a win over the Cougars dates back to a 5-4 victory on March 6, 2000.
