STATESBORO, Ga. - The
Georgia Southern softball
team (7-10) opens Southern Conference play in Charleston,
S.C. against the College of Charleston
(4-10). The Eagles will play a doubleheader Saturday, and a single game Sunday.
First pitch for both Saturday and Sunday is set for 1 p.m.
The Eagles are 1-3 so far this week after splitting a
doubleheader Tuesday against Jacksonville and
dropping two to North Florida Thursday.
Georgia
Southern continues to lead the conference in batting average (.288), slugging
(.453) and home runs (13). Freshman Hanna Ennis(Snellville, Ga.)
leads the league in hits with 22.
Brianna Streetmon(Winder, Ga.) has been pitching lights out this
season. She is second in the league in ERA (2.15) and first in opposing batting
average (.206).
The Eagles are 31-19 all-time against the Cougars and are
27-22 in conference-opening series. Georgia
Southern has faced College
of Charleston twice in
the opening weekend of conference play and is 4-3 against them.
The Cougars enter conference play with a three-game losing
streak after dropping the first and only game played in the rain-shortened N.C.
State Wolfpack Challenge last Friday.
College
of Charleston's offense
ranks in the bottom third of the conference with a .215 batting average and
last in runs scored.
Softball continues
conference play next weekend against Appalachian State at Eagle Field. First
pitch in the series is set for 1 p.m.
