SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? Sophomore Logan Blondell has been named the Southern Conference men's golfer of the week for all competition the week of March 11-17. He is the second Eagle to earn the honor this season as Joe Monte took the accolade in February.
The sophomore Eagle earned his second individual win of the year over the weekend at the 10th Annual Kaua'i Collegiate Cup on the Garden Isle of Hawai'i. His first individual honor of the season came at the Mizuno Savannah Intercollegiate in October.
“Logan's had a great year. He played a great tournament with three solid rounds in Hawai'i,” said head coach Larry Mays. “He played well in the tournament conditions and we're extremely proud of him. We will expect big things from him to finish off the year.”
This past weekend, the Lakeland, Fla. native led Georgia Southern to a first place tie carding a career low 208 (-8) for 54 holes. Blondell fired off an opening round 2-under-par 70 only to be followed with identical 3-under-par 69s the final two rounds. Blondell shot a near perfect opening round off three birdies, 14 pars and just one bogey.
Georgia Southern tied for first place with East Tennessee State. Combined, the Eagles shot an 860 (-4) for the two day tournament.
The player of the week is selected by a vote of the leagues' golf sports information directors.
Georgia Southern is back in action competing in the 30th Annual Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational March 20-22 at the Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Ga.
