Blondell Earns SoCon Student-Athlete of the Week Accolades

STARTANBURG, S.C. ? Sophomore Eagle golfer Logan Blondell has been named the Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week for all sporting events played from March 11-17, as announced by the league Wednesday afternoon. Blondell is the first Eagle to be named Student-Athlete of the Week for Georgia Southern for the 2008-09 academic year.
Blondell sports a 3.69 GPA in pre-business at GSU. The sophomore Eagle earned his second individual win of the year over the weekend at the 10th Annual Kaua'i Collegiate Cup on the Garden Isle of Hawai'i. The Lakeland, Fla. native led Georgia Southern to a first place tie carding a career low 208 (-8) for 54 holes. Blondell fired off an opening round 2-under-par 70 only to be followed with identical 3-under-par 69s the final two rounds. Blondell shot a near perfect opening round off three birdies, 14 pars and just one bogey.
Georgia Southern tied for first place with East Tennessee State. Combined, the Eagles shot an 860 (-4) for the two day tournament.
Georgia Southern is back in action competing in the 30th Annual Schenkel E-Z-Go Invitational March 20-22 at the Forest Heights Country Club in Statesboro, Ga.
