Lady Eagles Close Out Regular Season at Appalachian State

STATESBORO, GA ? The Georgia Southern women's basketball team will look to complete a season sweep of Appalachian State when they close out the regular season on Saturday (Feb. 28) at 1 p.m. in Boone, N.C. The Lady Eagles will head into the Southern Conference Tournament action next week.
After coming off a 62-61 conference victory at Wofford, the Lady Eagles stand in fourth place of the SoCon standings with a conference mark of 11-8 and an overall record of 16-12. The Mountaineers (7-21, 6-13) find themselves tied for seventh with Furman on the leader board. The tournament seedings will be announced following the conclusion of all regular season action which takes place on Saturday.
Appalachian State will look to snap a four-game skid as they come into Saturday's game. The Mountaineers are coming off a 74-60 defeat at UNC Greensboro where they were led by Sade Means, Sam Ramirez and Brittany Mixon who each contributed double figures in the game.
Georgia Southern claims a 29-12 all-time series edge over Appalachian State. The Lady Eagles claimed a 69-53 decision in the first meeting of the season between the two teams in Statesboro on Dec. 1. Senior Ashley Melson paced the team with a team-high 20 points, while J'Lisia Ogburn secured a game-high seven rebounds. ASU's Frances Hernandez dropped 19 points as Mixon pulled down seven boards in the contest.
Continuing to pace the Lady Eagles in scoring this season is senior Melson who averages 12.2 points per game. She is followed closely by Ogburn who drains 10.0 points on average and also leads the team in rebounding with 5.6 boards per game.
Leading ASU in scoring is Mixon with 12.1 points per game. She is followed by Ramirez who averages 10.2 points per contest. Averaging 7.4 boards per contest is Canesha Edwards who leads the team in rebounding.
With the win at Wofford, head coach Rusty Cram became the newest member of the elite 200-career victory club as he now boasts a 200-176 career record in 13 seasons at the helm of the women's basketball program. When facing App State, Coach Cram holds a 23-6 record against the Mountaineers who are 3-14 when facing the Lady Eagles in Boone.
