Lady Eagles Begin Final Road Series with Trip to Wofford

STATESBORO, GA ? The Georgia Southern women's basketball team begins its final two-game stretch on the road when they first travel to Wofford. Tip-off in Benjamin Johnson Arena in Spartanburg, S.C. is slated for 4 p.m. on Monday, February 23. The Lady Eagles are looking to stop a two-game skid and complete a regular season sweep over Wofford.
With a 15-12 overall record and 10-8 Southern Conference mark, Georgia Southern is looking to rebound from a 65-57 defeat versus Davidson on senior day (Feb. 21) at Hanner Fieldhouse. With the loss, Davidson gained a game on Georgia Southern and the two teams are now tied in fourth place on the SoCon leader board. The Lady Eagles are two games back from Western Carolina who is in third place.
Wofford is coming in to Monday's game after defeating Elon 56-51 on Saturday. The win improved the Terriers to 5-21 overall and 3-15 in conference play.
Georgia Southern claims a 24-3 all-time series edge over Wofford, taking the first meeting between the schools this season in a 70-48 fashion (Jan. 12). J'Lisia Ogburn (Dublin, Ga.) scored a game-high 17 points, while Brittney Nelson (Rochester, Mich.) pulled down a team-high 10 boards.
The last time Wofford defeated Georgia Southern dates back to the 2001-02 season when Wofford eliminated the Lady Eagles in the first round of the SoCon Tournament, 73-63 (March 1, 2002). Georgia Southern currently boasts a 13-game win streak over Wofford. The Terriers last defeated the Lady Eagles in regular season action on January 30, 1999 in Statesboro by a 62-56 margin. When in Spartanburg, the Lady Eagles are undefeated on Wofford's home court, boasting a perfect 11-0 record.
Continuing to pace the Lady Eagles this season is senior Ashley Melson (Newnan, Ga.) who averages 12 points a game. Following Melson is junior teammate Ogburn with 10 points. Ogburn also leads the team in rebounding, averaging 5.6 boards per contest.
Natalie Gramblin leads the Terriers in scoring this season, while Mahagony Williams paces the team in rebounding.
Head coach Rusty Cram carries a 23-3 record when facing the Terriers. Cram will look for his 200th career victory Monday night as he boasts a 199-176 overall record and a 135-96 conference ledger.
