SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Senior forward J'Lisia Ogburn has been selected at the SoCon women's basketball player of the week for all games December 1-7 as announced by the league office Tuesday. The Lady Eagle posted the fifth double-double of her career helping lead Georgia Southern to a 2-0 start in conference play.
The Dublin, Ga., native shot 61 percent from the floor and averaged 14 points in the Eagles' two wins last week. She also collected 18 rebounds, had three steals and three blocks.
In Georgia Southern's 73-68 win at Appalachian State, Ogburn scored a game-high 16 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds. She added three assists, two blocks and a steal. Ogburn went 6-of-12 from the floor and 4-of-5 from the free throw line. Nine of her points came in the second half as the Eagles held off a late rally by the Mountaineers.
Against Elon, Ogburn posted a double-double with 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting and 10 boards, nine of which she grabbed on the defensive end. It marked her first double-double of the season and fifth of her career. Nine of her 12 points came in the first half as the Eagles defeated the Phoenix 70-58.
Ogburn leads the team in rebounds, averaging 6.1 per game, and blocks, tallying eight for the year. She is currently shooting 52.5 percent from the field.
“I'm excited for J'Lisia and excited for the team as a whole,” said head coach Rusty Cram. “Anytime a player is recognized with an award, to me, that's an honor for not only the individual, but the team as well. J'Lisia has worked hard in her career and is certainly deserving of the recognition.”
Georgia Southern travels to non-conference foe Mercer on Friday.
Other top performers included Appalachian State's Ashlen Dewart, Chattanooga's Shanara Hollinquest, Davidson's Sophia Aleksandravicius, UNC Greensboro's Lakiah Hyson, Samford's Emily London and Wofford's Mahagony Williams.
