Eagles Return to Court Welcoming Kennesaw State

STATESBORO, GA – After receiving an extended break due to the postponement of Saturday's game, the Georgia Southern women's basketball team will return to the court on Monday, December 21, welcoming Kennesaw State. Tip inside Hanner Fieldhouse is set for 5:00 p.m.
Georgia Southern (5-4, 2-0) is coming off a 56-38 win over non-conference foe UNC Asheville, Wednesday (December 16). For the second consecutive game, Georgia Southern posted four players in double-figure scoring. The Lady Eagles were led by J'Lisia Ogburn (Dublin, Ga.) with 16 points. Meanwhile, Jamie Navarro (Naples, Fla.) added 11, while Carolyn Whitney (Duluth, Ga.) and Samantha Williams (Kingsport, Tenn.) each added 10 points. Krista Tate (Atlanta, Ga.) led on the boards with eight rebounds.
The Lady Eagles shot 38.6 percent from the floor, holding the Bulldogs to 26.4 percent. Forcing 18 Bulldog errors, the Lady Eagles were able to score 24 points. GS picked up 16 points off the bench and 22 points in the paint. UNCA went a mere 1-of-19 from three-point range for a 5.3 percent clip.
For the season, Georgia Southern is led by Whitney and Ogburn who both pick up 11.1 points per game on average. Ogburn also leads on the glass, averaging 5.4 rebounds per game.
Kennesaw State (4-5, 1-1) recently dropped a 48-94 decision to 25th-ranked Georgia Tech. The Yellow Jackets recorded five players in double digits, led by Mo Bennett's game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds. Deja Foster added 16 points for the Yellow Jackets, while Jasmine Blain recorded 13 points. Kennesaw State was led by Brandi Jones and Sametria Gideon with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Georgia Tech shot 52.4 percent from the floor, holding the Owls to 31.3 percent and picked up 30 points off 27 KSU turnovers. Fifty points were scored in the paint for Georgia Tech which won the rebounding edge, 52-20.
On the year, KSU is led in scoring by Angie Smith who averages 12.4 points per game and Gia Lockett, who picks up 10.8 ppg on average. Montinique Nixon leads the defense recording 8.2 rebounds per game.
The non-conference meeting between Kennesaw State and the Lady Eagles will only be the second in program history. The rivalry was initiated last season as Georgia Southern traveled to Kennesaw for the first meeting. The Lady Eagles will look to avenge a 82-61 defeat in 2008.

Season tickets for the 2009-2010 women's basketball season are currently on sale at $50 for a general admission pass. A flex plan, which includes five tickets that may be used at any home game, can be purchased for $25. Single-game tickets for adults are $8, while youth single-game tickets (ages 3-12) are priced at $4.
