Swimming & Diving Defeats Campbell Friday Night

STATESBORO, Ga. - Courtney Martz (Woodbine, Ga.) recorded four first-place finishes and helped the Georgia Southern swimming & diving team (3-4) to a 199-63 win over Campbell (3-8) Friday night at the RAC.
"Our first home meet is always exciting, and we had some nice surprises today," said head coach Nathan Kellogg. "We put some swimmers in some different events and we are really excited about that. Our divers tried some brand new things tonight and executed well."
Senior Martz combined with Lauren Parr (Canton, Ohio), Caitlin Martin (Lilburn, Ga.) and Caroline Bevillard (Bishop, Ga.) to tally a first-place finish in the 400 Medley Relay. They finished with a time of 3:59.60, which ranks second in the CCSA and set a RAC pool record. The Eagles' B team of Lindsay Goodman (Knoxville, Tenn.), Kristin Celii (Cary, N.C.), Lindsay Mullican (Lancaster, Pa.) and Ashley White (Charlotte, N.C.) recorded a second-place finish with a time of 4:04.74, giving the Eagles a back-to-back finish.
Georgia Southern also won the other relay event, the 200 Free Relay. Martz, Ali Campbell (Alberta, Canada), Laurie Stephens (Atlanta, Ga.) and Jordyn Pasley (Knoxville, Tenn.) combined for a time of 1:39.55, the second best this season for the Eagles. The B team, made up of Katie Crider (Bloomington, Ind.), Kristen Haudenschild (Woodbridge, Va.), White and Parr, came in third place with a time of 1:42.07.
Martz and Campbell finished one-two in the 50 Free. All four Eagles improved on their season best time in the event. Martz finished first with a time of 24.36. Campbell finished second with a time of 24.79. Pasley came in fourth with a time of 25.38. Haudenschild finished sixth with a time of 26.12.
Also in freestyle action, Campbell and Pasley tallied another one-two finish in the 100 Free. Campbell finished first with a time of 54.13. Pasley recorded her first time of the season in the event and finished second with a 55.01 mark. Freshman Martin finished fifth with a time of 56.12.
Stephens won the 200 Free with a season-best time of 1:58.62. Mullican recorded a third-place finish and also posted a new season-best time (1:59.42). White and Goodman finished fourth and fifth respectively. White recorded a time of 2:00.96, and Goodman finished with a time of 2:03.55.
In the 500 Free, the Eagles won the top-four spots behind a top-five CCSA time from Parr. She finished first with a time of 5:09.61. Goodman claimed second place with a 5:19.47 mark. Stephens came in third place with a time of 5:20.55, and Emily Fell (Brunswick, Ga.) finished fourth with a time of 5:20.64.
GS won the top-three spots in the 1000 Free. Campbell recorded another top finish, coming in first place with a time of 10:31.33. Parr and Fell finished second and third in the event. Parr recorded a time of 10:44.68, and Fell finished third with a time of 11:03.45.
Bevillard won the 100 Back with a time of 1:00.32. Freshman Holly Hirsch (Fort Mill, S.C.) finished second with a new season-best time of 1:02.28. Alex Mitchell (Maitland, Fla.) recorded a season-best time of 1:04.40 enroute to a fourth-place finish.
In the 200 Back, Martz recorded another first-place finish with a time of 2:06.14. She also set a pool record with that time. Mullican came in second with a season-best time of 2:12.62.
Celii won both the 100 and 200 Breast events. She finished the 100 Breast with a season-best time of 1:09.61 and set another season best in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:30.21.
Bevillard finished second in the 200 Breast with a time of 2:30.32.
Martin won her second event of the night in the 200 Fly. She finished with a time of 2:10.29. The Eagles also swept the top-three places in the event. Bailey Cartwright (Fayetteville, Ga.) finished second with a time of 2:16.91, and Rachael Stockwell (Jacksonville, Fla.) came in third with a time of 2:17.09.
White won the 100 Fly with a time of 1:00.08. Hirsch came in fourth for the Eagles with a time of 1:02.75.
GS also swept the top-three places in the 200 IM. Bevillard finished first with a new season-best time of 2:12.63. Martin came in second with a time of 2:15.50, and Fell finished third with a time of 2:16.31.
The Eagles return to action November 19th at the Gamecock Invitational.
