Martz Finished 5th in the 50 Free at the Gamecock Invitational

COLUMBIA, S.C. - Courtney Martz (Woodbine, Ga.) highlighted Georgia Southern's first day of action at the Gamecock Invitational Thursday, advancing to the finals of the 50 Free. Martz finished sixth in the event with a season-high time (24.02). The top-24 finishers in each event advance to the finals at 6 p.m. each day.
Martz returned in the night cap and improved on her earlier preformance. She finished fifth and bested her earlier time, finishing with a mark of 24.00.
The Eagles also got a fifth place finish in the 200 Free Relay finals. Martz, Caroline Bevillard (Bishop, Ga.), Emily Fell (Brunswick, Ga.) and Ali Campbell (Alberta, Canada) combined for a time of 1:35.15.
Campbell just missed giving the Eagles a second representative in the finals, placing 25th in the 500 Free. Campbell set a new season-best time of 5:09.58 in the event. Lindsay Mullican (Lancaster, Pa.) placed 32nd with another solid performance. The freshman recorded a time of 5:13.25. Fellow freshman Fell was the next Eagle to finish, completing the 500 Free with a time of 5:15.00. Lindsay Goodman (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Jordyn Pasley (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished back-to-back in 39th and 40th places. Goodman set a new season-best time of 5:15.46, and Pasley finished with a time of 5:16.78.
Freshman Caitlin Martin (Lilburn, Ga.) led Georgia Southern in the 200 IM with a 46th place finish. Martin improved on her season-best time and finished with a mark of 2:13.61. Ashley White (Charlotte, N.C.) and Bevillard finished back-to-back in 48th and 49th places. White recorded a time of 2:14.73, and Bevillard finished with a time of 2:14.76. Katie Crider (Bloomington, Ind.), Rachael Stockwell (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Kristin Celii (Cary, N.C.) finished together in 58th, 59th and 60th place respectively. Crider finished 58th with a time of 2:18.78. Stockwell improved on her season-best time from the Campbell meet (Nov 6). Celii finished 60th with a mark of 2:19.43.
Laurie Stephens (Atlanta, Ga.) was the next Eagle to finish after Martz placed sixth in the 50 Free. Stephens came in 41st with a time of 25.42. Jordyn Pasley (Knoxville, Tenn.) finished 51st with a time of 25.75. Katie Crider (Bloomington, Ind.) was the fourth Eagle to finish in the 50 Free. She came in with a time of 25.82. Celii and Anna Pudik (Chapel Hill, N.C.) finished back-to-back in 68th and 69th places. Celii came in with a time of 26.80, and Pudik finished with a time of 27.11.
The Eagles' 400 Medley Relay team finished 16th in the finals with a time of 3:57.88.
Swimming & Diving continues the Gamecock Invitational tomorrow and will wrap it up Saturday.
