Swimming & Diving is Set to Take Place in the Gamecock Invitational

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern swimming & diving team (3-4) is making its final preparations for the Gamecock Invitational which starts Thursday. The three-day meet will run through Saturday and will feature nine teams from the East Coast.
The Eagles enter the meet after a win in the home opener (Nov 6). Georgia Southern defeated Campbell 199-63 in a Friday night meet. The Eagles also picked up swimmer and diver of the week honors.
Courtney Martz (Woodbine, Ga.) was named swimmer of the week after picking up four event wins. She combined with Lauren Parr (Canton, Ohio), Caitlin Martin (Lilburn, Ga.) and Caroline Bevillard (Bishop, Ga.) to tally a first-place finish in the 400 Medley Relay. They finished with a time of 3:59.60, which ranks second in the CCSA and set a RAC pool record.
Martz was also a part of Georgia Southern's other relay win, the 200 Free Relay. Martz, Ali Campbell (Alberta, Canada), Laurie Stephens (Atlanta, Ga.) and Jordyn Pasley (Knoxville, Tenn.) combined for a time of 1:39.55, the second best this season for the Eagles.
In the individual events Martz won the 50 Free and 200 Back. She finished first in the 50 Free with a time of 24.36. In the 200 Back, Martz recorded another first-place finish with a time of 2:06.14. She also set a pool record with that time.
Alden Lynch (Jacksonville, Fla.) received the diving honors after winning both the 1 and 3 meter diving events.
The Invitational starts each day at 10 a.m. with preliminaries and finals set for 6:00 p.m. that night.
