Women?s Basketball Inks Two Posts for 2010-2011 Season

STATESBORO, GA – Two high school seniors have committed to Georgia Southern as announced by the women's basketball coaching staff recently. Danielle Spencer and Aishya Wofford have both signed National Letters of Intent and will join the Georgia Southern women's basketball roster in the 2010-2011 season.
Danielle Spencer is a 6'3” forward from Westlake High School in Atlanta, Georgia. Spencer has helped lead the team to consecutive Region Championships and three consecutive state play-off appearances. A Final Four contender in 2007 and Elite Eight participant her junior campaign, Spencer was nominated for the High School Heisman Award. Last season, Spencer was named to the All-Tournament Team when Westlake went to the Nike Girls Basketball Tournament in Hawai'i. She averaged nine points and eight rebounds per game last year. Spencer has received the Character Award for Girls Basketball at Westlake High School.
“Danielle spencer is a definite 4-5 post player for us that we are going to be in dire need of after losing J'Lisia [Ogburn] and Jessica [Geiger] this year,” said head coach Rusty Cram. “She is very athletic, is quick and runs the floor well. She looks to have great potential in this conference and we are very excited about having her.”
Aishya Wofford, a 6'0” power forward, hails from Augusta, Georgia and attends Westside High School. Wofford averaged 16.9 points, 19 rebounds and five blocked shots in 2008. She has been named MVP and All Region during her career at Westside High School. A multi-sport athlete, Wofford earned All-Region in volleyball and was runner-up her sophomore year for discus and third in discus her junior year in the State Championships. Wofford is Commander of her ROTC Navel Unit and is a strong student-athlete.
“Aishya Wofford is a very strong, physical swing player. She is completely opposite of Danielle. Whereas Danielle is a finesse player, Aishya is a power player that can also score from the outside. She has strong inside and outside games,” stated Cram.
“Both signees are extremely intelligent young ladies both on and off the court and are also very good students. We are excited about bringing that addition to the team as well,” Cram said. “With these two together, they will compliment what we will be losing in our post game this year with our two seniors and we are excited about bringing them both to the team next fall.”
