Eagles Return Home to Host North Florida

STATESBORO, GA – After a six-match road swing, the Georgia Southern volleyball team returns home to host non-conference foe North Florida on Tuesday (October 6). Match time in Hanner Fieldhouse is slated for 7 p.m.
Georgia Southern enters the match-up coming off a 3-0 sweep of Southern Conference rival, Chattanooga (October 3). Hitting .359 for the match, the Eagles improved to 11-6 overall and 2-1 in league play. Both Bethany Sanford (Avondale, Ariz.) and Lauren Claybaugh (Danville, Calif.) posted double-doubles in the winning effort. Sanford recorded her ninth of the season and fifth consecutive, while Claybaugh tallied her first of the year.
For the season, the Eagles are led by Sanford with 3.69 kills per set. Claybaugh and Parker Small (Charlotte, N.C.) follow closely behind with 2.28 and 2.27 kills per set, respectively. Leading the team in assists is freshman Kate Van Dyke (Shawnee, Kan.) with 10.42, while senior libero Cristin Haines (Palos Heights, Ill.) averages 3.45 digs per set on defense.
UNF (7-9, 2-6 Atlantic Sun) is coming off a 3-0 loss at Mercer. Kaley Read and Danielle Lerch lead the team averaging 4.02 and 3.06 kills on average, respectively. Jessica Catelano averages 9.36 assists per set, while Paige Pridgeon contributes 2.40 digs per set.
The teams will meet for the third time in program history Tuesday night as the series is tied 1-1. The Eagles and Osprey last meet in 2007 with Georgia Southern taking the 3-0 sweep.
Season tickets for the 2009 Georgia Southern volleyball season are currently on sale at $15 for a general admission pass. A family plan, which includes two adult passes and two children passes, can be purchased for only $35. Single-game tickets are priced at $5 for an adult and $1 for youth (ages 3-12).
