UNC Greensboro Defeats Men's Soccer in Saturday's Match

GREENSBORO, N.C. - UNC Greensboro (5-7-3, 2-1-1) earned their second SoCon win with a 6-0 defeat of the Georgia Southen men's soccer team (0-13-1, 0-4-1) Saturday.
Jon Cox (Alpharetta, Ga.) tallied five shots and a game high four shots on goal to lead the Eagles offense. In all the Eagles recorded 17 shots to the Spartans' 21 and tallied nine shots on goal.
The Spartans got on the board quickly with a goal in the 5th minute. Thomas Campbell recorded the first of his two goals on a through-pass from A.J. Nelson.
Nelson assisted on the first two goals for Greensboro and tallied a goal of his own in the 50th minute. Nelson set up Will Mack's goal in the 30th minute with a pass from the right touchline. Nelson also launched a header into the lower right portion of the box to give the Spartans a 4-0 lead.
Less than a minute after Mack's goal Cruz Oronos added a third score after he stole the ball in the midfield and launched a shot from 20 yards out that found the net in the 31st minute.
Campbell kept the Spartans on the attack and added a fifth goal on another through ball from E.J. O'Keeffe and Ryan Davis. UNC Greensboro did not let up on the pressure and scored a sixth goal in the 79th minute. Joe Layton stole a ball in the midfield and launched a shot into the net.
Cox put pressure on the Spartans' keeper in the 3rd minute, but Peyton Ford made the save.
After the first goal Danny Hall (Conyers, Ga.) took a shot but missed wide of the net. Connor Talbert (Centennial, Colo.) just missed high of the crossbar on a shot attempt in the 23rd minute and put one on target in the 28th minute, forcing a save by Ford.
After the third goal by UNC Greensboro, Cox and Matt Crowell (St. Augustine, Fla.) both put shots on target in the 40th and 41st minute. Peyton Ford made saves on both, denying the Eagles of two goals.
Rich Heyer (Tupelo, Miss.) traded shots with the Spartans to open the second half and missed wide of the post on his shot attempt.
After the Spartans' fifth goal, Heyer recorded two shots in a span of a minute, putting one on target. Crowell also had a shot attempt blocked by the defense in the 61st minute.
Cox found the target two more times in the 69th and 74th minutes, but was denied twice by Peyton Ford.
Hall took a shot in the 75th minute but a defender stepped in and blocked it.
The Eagles recorded three more shots in the match. Cox missed wide in the 83rd minute and Austin Steele (Kennesaw, Ga.) had a shot blocked in the 88th minute. David Leonard (Augusta, Ga.), however, found the target in the 86th minute, forcing another save by Ford.
Sven Picton took the final shot of the match for the Spartans, missing high of the net in the 90th minute.
The Eagles return to action against Furman in Greenville, S.C. next Saturday at 7 p.m.
