STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern men's soccer team (0-7-1) will host Davidson (7-1, 1-0) in the new conference opener Saturday. The match is set for 1 p.m. at Eagle Field inside of the Erk Russell Athletic Park.
The Eagles had their original conference opening match against Elon called due to unplayable conditions in the second half, forcing both teams to wait a week before recording their first SoCon matches.
Georgia Southern's offense is led by Jon Cox (Alpharetta, Ga.). Cox paces the team with 17 shots. Danny Hall (Conyers, Ga.) leads the team in goals and has scored three goals on nine shots this season.
The Wildcats enter Saturday's match receiving votes in the NSCAA Coaches Poll. Davidson finds themselves just outside of the top 25 and are effectively ranked 28th.
The Wildcats opened conference play with a comeback 3-2 win over College of Charleston Wednesday.
The reigning SoCon Player of the Week, Alex Caskey, scored the game-winning goal on a penalty kick.
Caskey leads the team in goals with six and shots on goal (16). Charlie Reiter leads the team in points with 16 and has recorded five goals and six assists.
The men's and women's soccer teams will host the Third Annual Little Eagles Soccer Clinic following the conclusion of the match with Davidson.
