Men's Soccer Returns Home for SoCon Match

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern men's soccer team (0-10-1, 0-1) returns home to face the College of Charleston in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader.
The Eagles enter this weekend's match with the Cougars, after dropping a pair of games to Gardner-Webb and #13 N.C. State.
Aleksandar Tomic (Sydney, Australia) gave the Georgia Southern men's soccer team a first-half lead against Gardner-Webb with his first goal of the season. The Bulldogs tied the match in the 40th minute and took a 2-1 halftime lead a minute later. Austin Steele (Kennesaw, Ga.) responded to Gardner-Webb's offensive outburst with a goal of his own, tying the match in the 60th minute. The Bulldogs went on to score three unanswered goals in the remainder of the second half to earn their sixth win of the season.
The Eagles exhibited a strong defense in the first half of the N.C. State match and held them scoreless, but two second-half goals lifted the Wolfpack over Georgia Southern. Federico Nachmann scored the game winner in the 51st minute for his first goal of the season.
The Georgia Southern offense is led by Jon Cox (Alpharetta, Ga.). Cox leads the team in shots with 20 and ranks eighth in the SoCon in shots per game (2.5).
Mike Gubosh (Evans, Ga.) ranks second in the SoCon with 4.67 saves per game. Gubosh has started five matches for the Eagles and has recorded 35 saves this season.
The Cougars are 1-2 in their last three matches and went 1-1 in conference play. #6 Wake Forest escaped Patroits Point with a 1-0 win Tuesday in College of Charleston's last match.
Matt Morris leads the attack for the Cougars and ranks fourth in the SoCon in points (11). Morris has tallied four goals and five assists in 12 starts this season. Zach Prince paces the team in shots with 32.
College of Charleston's defense sports a 1.80 goals against average. Chris Hankins ranks fourth in the SoCon with a 1.15 GAA.
