STATESBORO, Ga. ? The Georgia Southern swimming & diving team (6-8) picked up a much needed win on Senior Day and defeated Campbell (5-6)178-105 Saturday.
“We always want to win on Senior Day,” said head coach Nathan Kellogg. “The team came out fired up and executed well overall.”
The Lady Eagles attained 10 first place finishes.
Georgia Southern's day started off well with a one, two finish in the first event. Georgia Southern's A 200 yard medley relay team finished first with a time of 1:49.62. The B team came in second with a time of 1:50.00.
Lauren Parr (Canton, Ohio) had an outstanding day finishing first in the 1000 yard freestyle, the 100 yard butterfly and 200 yard individual medley. She also broke the pool record in the 100 fly with a time of 58.12.
Ali Campbell (Fort McMurray, Alberta) gave Georgia Southern its third straight first place finish. Campbell won the 200 yard freestyle event with a time of 1:55.96.
Lindsay Goodman (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Caroline Bevillard (Bishop, Ga.) finished one, two in the 100 yard backstroke. Goodman finished first with a time of 59.96. Goodman also won the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:10.90.
The Lady Eagles picked up their first one, two, three finish of the day in the 200 yard butterfly. Courtney McCarthy (Savannah, Ga.) finished first with a time of 2:11.55. Meredith Fehr (Matthews, N.C.) finished second with a time of 2:14.11 and Rachael Stockwell (Jacksonville, Fla.) finished third.
Courtney Martz (Woodbine, Ga.) won the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 24.56. She also finished second in the 200 yard back with a time of 2:11.01.
Katie Creighton (Snellville, Ga.) won both diving events.
Bevillard gave Georgia Southern another first place finish in the 500 yard freestyle. Fehr finished right behind her with a time of 5:20.08.
Georgia Southern also picked up second and third place in the 100 fly. McCarthy finished second with a time of 59.66 and Katelyn Woolfolk (Satellite Beach, Fla.) placed third with a time of 1:00.87.
Woolfolk also finished second in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.61.
Georgia Southern's A 400 yard freestyle relay team won the final event of the day with a time of 3:38.27.
Today's meet was the final home meet for Georgia Southern's five seniors.
“Our seniors have done a good job of coordinating team activities, communicating expectations and keeping the team running as a cohesive unit,” said Kellogg. “They are a special group to me as they are the first class I ever recruited.”
The Lady Eagles return to action at the conference championships in Athens, Ga. which start February 19th and run through the 21st.
