Lady Eagles to Entertain UNC Greensboro and Elon

STATESBORO, GA ? The Georgia Southern women's basketball team begins a three-game home stretch Saturday, January 24, when they host UNC Greensboro. Tip-off in Hanner Fieldhouse on Pack the House in Pink day is set for 3 p.m. The Lady Eagles will continue this home stretch on Monday, January 26, when they entertain Elon at 7 p.m.
The Lady Eagles look to avenge an earlier regular season loss to the Spartans on Saturday. UNCG handed Georgia Southern its first conference loss of the season with a 71-53 decision on December 17. J'Lisia Ogburn (Dublin, Ga.) led the Eagles in the game with 16 points and 15 rebounds, earning her second career double-double. On Monday, Georgia Southern looks to complete a sweep over Elon, having taken the first game of the season in a 67-58 fashion. Ashley Melson (Newnan, Ga.) led the Lady Eagles, chipping in a team-high 15 points.
Georgia Southern comes into Saturday's contest standing at 11-8 overall and 6-4 in Southern Conference play. The Lady Eagles are coming off a 42-52 road loss at College of Charleston (Jan. 19). The Eagles were paced in scoring by Ogburn, who contributed 15 points and pulled down a team-high 9 rebounds. Overall, the Lady Eagles are led in scoring this season by senior Melson, who averages 12.8 points per game. Melson is followed by Ogburn, who chips in 10.3 points per game and 6.0 rebounds per game on average for Georgia Southern.
The Spartans (7-12, 4-6) are coming off a 68-56 victory at home over Wofford (Jan. 19). Lakiah Hyson, who scored a team-high 19 points in the game, was followed closely by Monique Floyd, who poured in 18 points. Kendra Smith led the rebounding battle for the Spartans, securing 10 boards. Gini Grimsley leads UNCG overall thus far in the season, averaging 10.2 points per game and 5.6 rebounds per game.
Elon currently boasts a 1-17, 0-10 record on the season, but will face College of Charleston on Saturday before heading to Statesboro. Urysla Cotton leads the Phoenix in scoring, averaging 9.5 points per game, while Amber Wall takes the lead in rebounding, averaging 8.1 boards per game.
