Women's Soccer Loses Home Opener 2-1

Statesboro, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Women’s Soccer team fell short against Charleston Southern 2-1.

“We did not seem to gel well out there. Charleston Southern is a good team and they gave us trouble today,” said Coach Hart.

The Buccaneers scored first. Briana Murphy knocked the ball into the net during the 22nd minute of play.

The Eagles responded right away. During the next minute of play Ashley Toussaint (Warner Robins, Ga.) scored off a pass from Danae Kaimuloa (Escondido, Calif.).

“We did respond well after the first goal. Ashley and Danae played well together,” said Coach Hart.

Charleston Southern took the lead for good during the 36th minute, when Sarah Catenacci scored off a pass from Jen Vroman.

The Eagles battled hard in the second half keeping the game in reach, but were unable to tie the game up.

Lauren Santos (Berwyn, Ill.) played all 90 minutes in goal for the Eagles and recorded five saves.

Chelsea Kephart (Cumming, Ga.) recorded her first shot on goal of the season.

Nikki Lepper (Carmel, Ind.) picked up a shot on goal and Jenny Anderson (Birmingham, Ala.) recorded her fourth shot on goal of the young season.
