Men?s Soccer Loses Hard Fought Match 1-0

Statesboro, Ga. - The Georgia Southern Men's Soccer out shot North Florida 14 to six in the second half but lost 1-0 on a late goal by North Florida's Steven Lowenthal.

“The last few minutes were disappointing. They scored off one of the few corner kicks they got and nailed a shot from 30 yards out,” said Coach Kennedy.

Georgia Southern's best scoring opportunity came in the first half when Jon Cox (Alpharetta, Ga.) shot and hit the left post.

Cox took six shots, three of which were on goal.

“I felt like the last 60 minutes of the game were some of the best soccer we have played all year,” said Coach Kennedy.

The Eagles fall to 1-3-0 and North Florida (2-4-0) picks up its second win of the season.

Mark Beville (Apopka, Fla.) picked up a shot on goal in today's action.

Fredrik Langseth (Lorenskog, Norway) took three shots and picked up a shot on goal.

Goalkeeper, Joey Ralph (Evans, Ga.) played well all day and picked up six saves.

Senior, Jon Kinsler (Ormond Beach, Fla.) played strong defense and took two shots.

Freshman, Joe Madigan (Centennial, Colo.) took three shots in his second start of the season.

Austin Steele (Kennesaw, Ga.) and Stephen George (Lawrenceville, Ga.) took two shots in the game.

The match was a physical one with a combined five yellow cards being issued between the two teams.

“I felt like we settled into how the match was going to be played after the first few minutes and started to play our game,” said Coach Kennedy.

The Eagles return to action Sunday against Jacksonville at 4 pm.
