GREENVILLE, S.C. ? The Georgia Southern women's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision at No. 71 Furman on Sunday afternoon, as the Paladins ended GSU's four-match winning streak in Greenville at the Mickel Tennis Center.
The Eagles (7-5, 1-1 SoCon) lost the doubles point as Furman claimed the early advantage. Furman's (8-4, 2-0 SoCon) tandem of Lauren Osborne and Christina Swindall topped GSU's freshmen tandem of Ali Beavers (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Melanie Rolle (Gainesville, Fla.) 8-5 at the No. 2 position. The loss snapped the freshmen's nine-match dual streak. Jessica Preeg and Lauren Tomory defeated Emma Knight (Duluth, Ga.) and Jessica Matlosz (Alpharetta, Ga.) by an 8-4 decision ending their unbeaten streak. Knight and Matlosz fall to 6-1 on the season.
In singles action, Molly Maddox (Rome, Ga.) ousted Preeg in straight sets 7-5, 6-2 from the No. 4 slot. Sophomore Kristi Kegerreis (Fairfax, Va.) fell 6-2, 6-2 against Lauren Goioia from the No. 1 position. Goioia is currently ranked 93rd nationally by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
