Women's Tennis Falls in Close Match at Wofford, 5-2

SPARTANBURG, S.C. ? The Georgia Southern women's tennis team dropped a close battle on Monday afternoon, as the Terriers of Wofford hung on to claim a 5-2 victory over the Eagles at the Reeves Tennis Center in Spartanburg.
GSU (7-6, 1-2 SoCon) was successful from the No. 2 doubles position, but Wofford claimed the doubles point taking victories from the No. 1 and No. 3 seeds. The freshmen tandem of Ali Beavers (Kingsport, Tenn.) and Melanie Rolle (Gainesville, Fla.) earned their 10th victory of the season dropping Adriane Hodges and Cayley Wetzig by an 8-5 decision.
In singles action, Georgia Southern gave Wofford all they could handle, but fell short in the end. Wofford (9-1, 2-0 SoCon) claimed the match taking four victories in singles. Four of the six matches were decided in three sets. Beavers notched her second victory of the day from the No. 3 position ousting Sabrina Smyers in straight sets 6-2, 6-3. Molly Maddox (Rome, Ga.) used three sets to take down Cayley Wetzig from the No. 4 seed by a final of 7-5, 3-6, 6-2.
The Eagles are back on the hard-courts Saturday, March 15, as they play host to conference foe UNC Greensboro. The match is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
