STATESBORO, Ga. - Sophomore forward Jessica Geiger was named Southern Conference Student-Athlete of the Week, it was announced Tuesday, after averaging 11.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists in home wins versus UNC Greensboro and Elon.
Geiger, a marketing major, carries a cumulative 4.0 grade point average, having maintained that figure throughout her college career.
“She has the respect of every one of her teammates because she gets it done on and off of the court,” said head coach Rusty Cram. “She's the epitome of an NCAA Division I student-athlete. I'm proud of her and happy for her.”
Geiger tallied nine points, four rebounds and two blocks in a 68-57 win over UNC Greensboro (Feb. 2). Two days later, in a 70-51 victory over Elon, she netted a career-high 14 points, including 2-of-4 shooting from three-point land and a perfect 4-of-4 free-throw shooting.
Geiger is fourth on the team in scoring (7.2), second in rebounding (4.8), and first in blocks per game (1.0).
After enjoying a pair of home wins over UNCG and Elon, the Lady Eagles will next prepare for a four-game road trip starting Saturday (Feb. 9) at Wofford. Tip-off against the Terriers is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Benjamin Johnson Arena in Spartanburg, S.C.
