Women's Tennis Earns Third Consecutive Victory

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. ? The Georgia Southern women's tennis team earned its third consecutive victory on Saturday afternoon as they defeated the Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb by a final of 5-2 in Boiling Springs.

The Eagles (3-3) took the early advantage earning the doubles point. The freshmen tandem of Melanie Rolle (Gainesville, Fla.) and Ali Beavers (Kingsport, Tenn.) defeated Beavers' sister Amy and partner Jenny Gomez 8-6 from the No. 2 doubles position. Jessica Matlosz (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Emma Knight (Duluth, Ga.) notched their first victory together downing Allie Mills and Monica Walser 8-5.

In singles action, GSU took four of the six matches to seal the 5-2 victory. Junior Molly Maddox (Rome, Ga.) used three sets to defeat Walser 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 from the No. 4 position. Sophomore Jessica Fuller (Cartersville, Ga.) topped Allie Mills from the No. 6 singles slot in straight sets 6-0, 6-2.

“We had taken three points early on,” said GSU coach Amy Bonner. “We took the doubles point, but it was a really intense match and we had to work hard to earn the victory. Hopefully it will get us ready for tomorrow's match with USC Upstate.”

The Eagles return to action tomorrow as they travel to Spartanburg, S.C. to compete against USC Upstate. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
