Women?s Hoops to Entertain UNC Greensboro

STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern women's basketball team begins a two-game homestand, Saturday (Feb. 2) as it hosts UNC Greensboro at Hanner Fieldhouse. The Southern Conference clash is slated for 3 p.m.
Georgia Southern comes into Saturday's bout with an 11-9 overall and 7-2 conference record, after falling to SoCon leader and undefeated Chattanooga (10-0), Monday (Jan. 28). Georgia Southern's six-game win-streak came to a halt with the loss, but the home win-streak continues at eight games. The Lady Eagles now sit in a three-way tie for second place in the SoCon rankings with Western Carolina and Davidson.
UNC Greensboro tallies a 5-15 overall and 3-6 league slate, having recently edged league foe Elon 56-54 at Greensboro, N.C. (Jan. 26). The Spartans are looking to build on its current two-game win-streak.
UNC Greensboro leads the all-time series, 16-11, since their first meeting in 1997 when the Spartans claimed a 91-65 win at the Arkansas Dial Soap Classic in Fayetteville, Ark. The last time the Lady Eagles defeated UNCG was earlier this season (63-50) at Fleming Gymnasium. The win sparked a six-game streak that lasted up until Chattanooga snapped it. The Spartans last defeated GSU at Hanner Fieldhouse last season by a 68-60 margin.
Senior guard Tiffany Brown (Waxhaw, N.C.) leads the team with 11.8 points per game while classmate Shawnda Atwood (Pensacola, Fla.) follows with 10.7 points per contest. Atwood pulls down a team-best 5.7 rebounds per game and is among the league leaders in both scoring and rebounds. Sophomore guard Carolyn Whitney (Duluth, Ga.) paces the team with 3.3 assists per game, and is consistently among the nation's leaders in assist to turnover ratio (2.00).
UNC Greensboro is led in scoring by Kemena Brooks with 9.1 points per game. Teammate Brittany Frazier pulls down a team-best 5.3 rebounds per contest.
A 1985 graduate of Louisiana Tech, head coach Rusty Cram is in his 12th season at the helm of the Lady Eagles and carries a 178-160 career and school record.
UNC Greensboro head coach Lynne Agee, a 1971 graduate of Longwood, comes to Statesboro with a 518-248 school record in her 27th year at the helm of the Spartans. She holds a 564-271 career record in her 30th year overall.
