STATESBORO, Ga. - The Georgia Southern men's soccer team will face UNC Greensboro in the second round of the SoCon Tournament Friday at 7:00 p.m. in Davidson, N.C.
“The semi-final match against Greensboro will be another battle. After the first round you are at a neutral venue, and all bets are off. I anticipate Greensboro is going to be prepared, tough and confident after knocking off Furman,” said head coach Kevin Kennedy.
The Eagles are 8-8-0 (4-3-0) after defeating Davidson 2-1 in the first round at Eagle Field and defeated UNC Greensboro 2-1 in the final regular season game on November 4th. The win was the first in school history for Georgia Southern over the Spartans.
Georgia Southern's offense ranks sixth in goals, fourth in assists and fifth in points in the Southern Conference. The Eagles' defense is only allowing 1.31 goals per game which ranks first in the SoCon.
UNC Greensboro is 7-11-1 (2-5-0) after knocking off the number two seed Furman 2-1.
The Spartans rank fifth in goals, seventh in assists and fifth in points in the SoCon. Their defense is allowing 1.79 goals per match and ranks seventh in the conference.
UNC Greensboro leads the all-time series with a record of 14-1-2.
Georgia Southern won the regular season match against the Spartans on November 4th at Eagle Field. The Eagles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first half. Tim Masters scored a quick second half goal for UNC Greensboro as the Spartans threatened, but the Eagles held on and were able to win the match 2-1.
The winner of the Georgia Southern and UNC Greensboro match will face the winner of the Elon and College of Charleston match in the SoCon Tournament finals Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
