STATESBORO, Ga. ? The Georgia Southern swimming & diving team recognized five seniors on Saturday afternoon and sent them off in style as the Eagles reeled off their 10th straight dual meet victory, defeating the University of North Florida at the Aquatics Center at the Recreation Activities Center (RAC).
It was the final home meet for seniors Jennifer Clayton (Marietta, Ga.), Amanda Gerdeman (Jacksonville, Fla.), Kimberly Morris (Lawrenceville, Ga.), Britney Simons (Cumming, Ga.) and Jenna Tennant (Marietta, Ga.)
GSU (12-1, 9-1 CCSA) took down the Ospreys 141-102 concluding the regular season. The Eagles christened the RAC recording a 9-0 record at home this season.
Sophomore Courtney Martz was a triple-event winner for the fourth consecutive meet. The Woodbine, Ga. native earned victories in the 50 and 100 freestyle events and titled as a member of the 400 free relay.
Teammate Lindsay Goodman (Knoxville, Tenn.) was a double-event winner posting victories in the 400 medley relay and 200 backstroke. Freshman Ali Campbell (Alberta, Canada) also recorded two victories during the contest with a first place finish in the 200 free and 400 free relay.
In all, Georgia Southern took first place finishes in eight of the thirteen events.
"We had a tremendous day today,” said GSU head coach Nathan Kellogg. “Seeing that it was our seniors' last dual meet, it was pretty emotional.” Our divers did very well against some tough competition. I'm very proud of all our swimmers and divers, especially the seniors. We have accomplished so much this season, but now we have about three and a half weeks to fine tune, prepare, and focus on the conference championship meet."
Georgia Southern next hits the pool (Feb. 21-23) when they head to Huntersville, N.C. for the first-ever Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association (CCSA) Championships.
