STATESBORO, Ga. ? After a four-game road trip, the Georgia
Southern women's basketball team will return to Hanner Fieldhouse to entertain
Wofford, Saturday (Jan. 12) at 3 p.m., which begins a four-game homestand.
Georgia Southern (7-8, 3-1) is coming off a two-game win streak, defeating
both UNC Greensboro (Jan. 5) and Elon (Jan. 7) on the road and staying unbeaten
in games played during the New Year, 2-0.
Wofford recently dropped a tough road game to Kentucky
(Jan. 7) in Lexington,
snapping the Terriers' six-game win streak dating back to a Dec. 15 victory
over UNC Greensboro.
The Lady Eagles and Terriers have met 23 times with Georgia
Southern commanding a 20-3 all-time series record. Wofford has beaten the Lady Eagles twice at
Hanner Fieldhouse, but GSU holds a current 11-game win streak over the
Terriers, which began in 2003. Georgia
Southern last defeated the Terriers at Wofford by an 82-67 decision (Jan. 29,
2007). Wofford last beat the Lady Eagles
in 2002 in the first round of the Southern Conference tournament in Charleston,
S.C., 73-63.
Shawnda Atwood (Pensacola, Fla.) and Tiffany Brown (Waxhaw,
N.C.) pace the Georgia Southern squad with 11.1
points per game, while Atwood pulls down a team-high 5.7 rebounds per contest. Ashley Melson (Newnan, Ga.)
is the third of three Lady Eagles to average double-figures in points, scoring
10.0 per game, while grabbing an average 4.2 rebounds per contest, third-best
on the team.
Terriers guard Liz Miller paces the team in several
categories, including points (12.2), assists (3.2), steals (2.8) and three-pointers
(1.6) per contest. She is followed in
scoring by Kelsi Koenig (9.6) who leads the team with 6.0 rebounds per game.
A 1985 graduate of Louisiana Tech, head coach
Rusty Cram is in his 12th season at the helm of the Lady Eagles and
carries a 174-159 career and school record.
Wofford head coach Edgar Farmer, a 1994
graduate of North Carolina
comes to Statesboro with a 33-66 slate in his fourth season with the Terriers.
