Statesboro, Ga. ? The Georgia Southern swimming & diving team announced its 2007 schedule, opening Saturday, October 13 at the College of Charleston.
"We're excited about our schedule for this season. We have some tough meets lined up, but anytime you compete against good teams, it brings out your best,” said head coach Nathan Kellogg.
The Eagles host Southeastern Conference opponent Vanderbilt on October 20, which marks the first time that Georgia Southern will compete in the newly constructed Recreation Activity Center (RAC) aquatics facility.
“This will be the first time in some years now that we're competing against an SEC team. They just brought the program back last season, but I'm sure it will be a quality meet,” said Kellogg. "The RAC is a great place to train day-in and day-out. We're looking forward to hosting our first meet in a new facility and it should certainly aid recruiting."
Georgia Southern finishes out competition for the month of October with a meet on the 26th in a conference bout with Davidson, before heading to Buies Creek, N.C. to compete against Campbell and Howard on the 27th.
The month of November is centered around the Davidson Invitational, where the Eagles will showcase their abilities on the 16th, 17th and 18th in Davidson, N.C.
The Eagles go a little over a month before hitting the pool again in January where they will finish out the remainder of the regular season with four consecutive home meets.
Conference opponents Radford, Gardner-Webb and Florida A&M come to Statesboro on January 5. Georgia Southern will host a pair of non-conference teams on January 12, where they will match up against Savannah College of Art and Design and New Orleans, before battling Campbell and Florida Gulf Coast on January 19. The Eagles conclude the regular season on January 26 against North Florida.
Georgia Southern will compete for the first time in the newly formed Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association Championships (CCSA), which begins on Thursday, February 21 and concludes, Saturday, February 23.
Kellogg said, "The Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association is going to be a good, deep, fast meet. I believe there will be a handful of teams in the mix, gunning for the championship. Anytime the conference meet is that spread out, it's usually a lot of fun and very exciting."
