STATESBORO, Ga. ? The Georgia Southern women's soccer team will head back out on the road to battle Winthrop in a non-conference clash, Friday (Sep. 28). The match-up is slated for 7:30 p.m. in Rock Hill, S.C.
Georgia Southern (1-6-0) and Winthrop (0-3-3) have only met twice before with Winthrop leading the series 2-0. The last time the two teams met was in 2006 when Winthrop narrowly edged GSU in Statesboro by a 1-0 advantage. In 2005, Winthrop hosted Georgia Southern in Rock Hill. Then-freshman Audrey Brown (Fort Worth, Texas) notched the team's only goal in a 3-1 loss to the non-conference foe.
GSU looks to bounce back from a two-game skid, with the last win occurring in the Southern Conference opener versus The Citadel (Sep. 19) that saw the Eagles garner a 6-0 victory at home.
Head coach Ashley Hart's team is led on offense by junior Ashley Toussaint (Warner Robins, Ga.) who registers three goals on 17 shots. Brown follows with a pair of goals and one assist, while teammate Heather Smith (Kingwood, Texas) tallies one goal and a team-best two assists.
Winthrop, headed by coach Melissa Heinz, is led offensively by Ashley Hallmon with a pair of goals and a team-high tying 10 shots. Teammate Michelle Butler tallies both a goal and an assist, and Erin Foote, who also has a team-high tying 10 shots, owns one goal.
