Eagles to Entertain Wofford, Thursday

STATESBORO, Ga. ? The Georgia Southern men's soccer team will entertain Southern Conference foe Wofford, Thursday at Eagle Field with kickoff starting at 5 p.m.
In 17 meetings, Georgia Southern (3-5-0, 0-1-0) holds an 11-2-4 series advantage over Wofford (2-4-1, 0-0-0). The last time the schools met was in 2006 in Spartanburg, S.C. with the Eagles posting a 2-0 victory. The win marked the fourth consecutive victory over the Terriers. The last time Wofford defeated the Eagles was in 1996 at Spartanburg in a 2-0 decision.
Georgia Southern is looking to bounce back after a 2-0 loss to SoCon rival Elon (Sep. 22). Just prior to the Elon game, the Eagles had won two straight games.
Four Eagles have scored one goal, apiece, among them junior forward Daniel Smith (Marietta, Ga.) who has dished out a pair of assists and leads the team with four points. Freshman Andres Cabrero (Mableton, Ga.) tallies a team-high 10 shots and is followed by classmate Luigi Clendening (Augusta, Ga.) with eight shots and one goal. Keeper Brian Young (Roswell, Ga.) has seen time in the cage the last three games, posting a shutout and tallying 13 saves.
Led by head coach Matt Kern, Wofford returns seven starters and 16 letterwinners to the roster. The Terriers are in a four-game slump, most recently being edged 2-1 by Central Florida at the UCF Fall Classic in Orlando, Fla. (Sep. 23).
The Terriers are led by Moe Kelli and Kentrel Owens with four points, apiece, each with a pair of goals. Phil Beene records a team-best 15 shots who is followed by Kelli with 12. Goalkeeper Joey Taylor has played full-time in the cage for all seven matches, registering three shutouts and 33 saves.
