STATESBORO, Ga. ? The Georgia Southern men's soccer team will try for its third consecutive win as it opens up its Southern Conference portion of the 2007 schedule taking on Elon, Saturday at 7 p.m., at Rudd Field.
The Eagles (3-4-0, 0-0-0) and the Phoenix (3-2-1, 0-0-0) will clash for only the fifth time in the young series. Teammates BJ Reine (Baton Rouge, La.), Luigi Clendening (Augusta, Ga.) and Jon-Pierre Anthony (Birmingham, Ala.) also share one goal, apiece.
Senior goalkeeper Brian Young (Roswell, Ga.) has recently emerged as a deciding factor in the Eagles latest pair of victories with solid performances in the cage. With seven saves, he holds a 2-0 record, which includes a recent 1-0 shutout victory over North Florida (Sep. 19).
Elon is coached by Darren Powell in his third year at the helm. The Phoenix are led offensively by Justin Wyatt and Brett Paschall, both claiming three goals and an assist, apiece, good for seven points thus far in the season.
Elon is also enjoying a two-game win streak, recently defeating UNC Asheville (Sep. 19) by a 2-0 margin, and earlier beating Mount St. Mary's (Sep. 16), 2-0.
