Men's Tennis Completes Second Day of Georgia Southern Invitational

Statesboro, Ga. ? The Georgia Southern men's tennis team completed its second day at the Georgia Southern Invitational on Saturday, at the Hanner Fieldhouse Tennis Courts.
In singles A competition, junior Joris De Weerdt (Mortsel, Belgium/St. Gabriel) was defeated 6-4, 6-4 by South Carolina State's Radek Pivonka. De Weerdt's senior teammate Emmanuel Nkoueleue (Douala, Cameroon/ Abraham Baldwin) was beaten 6-3, 6-1 by Ivan Milivojevic also from South Carolina State.
Singles B action squared off two Georgia Southern players, but the format was changed so that the two could face opposing competition. As a result, junior Neil Shine (Augusta, Ga./Augusta Prep) and sophomore Gregory Bekkers (Antwerp Belgium/Keystone) both fell in semifinal action. Junior Philip Prins (Cape Town, South Africa/Rondebosch) also lost 6-0, 6-3 to Kevins Sijmons of Armstrong Atlantic State.
Georgia Southern had two squads match up against one another in the Doubles A Consolation Championships where the team of Nkoueleue and Malet defeated De Weerdt and Prins 8-4. The team of Shine and freshman Mark Paetz (Munich, Germany) were victorious in Doubles B competition where they advanced to Sunday's final where they will compete against Sijmons and Davor Zink.
The eagles conclude the third day of the Georgia Southern Invitational tomorrow at the Hanner Fieldhouse Tennis Courts. Matches are scheduled to begin at 10 AM.
