Men?s Soccer Travels to Winthrop Tournament

STATESBORO, Ga. ? The Georgia Southern men's soccer team will finish up a seven-game road trip this weekend as it competes in the Wingate Inn Classic, tonight and Sunday, at Rock Hill, S.C. The tournament is hosted by Winthrop, and will pit GSU versus the host, this evening at 7:30.
Georgia Southern (1-4-0) will look to pick up its first win since the season-opener versus VMI (Aug. 31). Winthrop, currently ranked No. 9 in the South Atlantic region, enters the tournament with a 3-1-0 overall record.
Winthrop leads the all-time series with GSU, claiming an 8-5-2 advantage in 15 meetings. The last time the two schools met, Georgia Southern hosted Winthrop which ended in a 1-1, overtime stalemate (Sep. 30). The last time GSU defeated Winthrop was back in 2004 when the Blue and White garnered a 2-1, overtime victory at the Georgia Southern Invitational.
Georgia Southern is led in points by Jon-Pierre Anthony (Birmingham, Ala.) and Luigi Clendening (Augusta, Ga.) with two points, apiece. In his second year at the helm, head coach Kevin Kennedy tallies an 11-10-3 overall record.
Winthrop's head coach Rich Posipanko carries a 182-155-22 school record coming into the weekend's tournament, this year being his 19th season at the helm. Daniel Revivo and Saidi Isaac lead the offensive force. Revivo has knocked in five goals in four games, leading the squad with 10 points. Teammate Isaac follows with seven points, claiming three goals and one assist. The duo accounts for all eight of the team's goals so far this year.
