DAVIDSON, N.C. ? The Georgia Southern women's basketball team concludes its three-game road trip in the Southern Conference opener at Davidson, Thursday evening at 7 p.m. at John M. Belk Arena.
Georgia Southern (2-4, 0-0 SoCon) looks to halt a two game skid following a pair of games versus Arkansas and UTSA at the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic tournament (Nov. 23-24).
Davidson (2-2, 0-0 SoCon) will host its first home contest of the season after playing its first four games on the road. The Wildcats recently fell to Charlotte, Saturday (Nov. 24) by a 69-53 decision.
The Lady Eagles and Wildcats have met on 31 occasions with Georgia Southern claiming a 17-14 all-time series edge. In games played at Davidson, the series is tied 7-7. Davidson holds an eight-game win streak over the Lady Eagles having last gained the victory over GSU (Feb. 10, 2007) by a 75-52 margin. Georgia Southern's last win over Davidson occurred in the 2003 SoCon tournament in Charleston, S.C., 62-57.
Georgia Southern is led by senior guard Shawnda Atwood (Pensacola, Fla.) with 13.2 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. She was named to the UTSA Thanksgiving Classic all-tournament team after averaging 10.5 points and 3.0 rebounds versus Arkansas and UTSA. Junior guard Ashley Melson (Newnan, Ga.) follows with 9.2 points and 4.3 rebounds, while sophomore guard Carolyn Whitney (Duluth, Ga.) tallies a team-best 4.3 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
Davidson is led by Kelsey Cary with 14.7 points and 8.3 rebounds per contest. She is followed by Mercedes Robinson with 13.7 points and 7.7 rebounds.
Head coach Rusty Cram, a 1985 graduate of Louisiana Tech, is in his 12th year at the helm of the Lady Eagles and holds a 169-155 record. Davidson head coach Annette Watts, a 1981 graduate of East Tennessee State, carries a 101-79 record in her sixth year coaching overall.
